Sri. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

Minister for Home and Tourism

The police force under a Government reflects its very nature. The LDF Government has always viewed police force as an agency to ensure social peace which alone can usher in development. Police is the best bet for the overall development of society. The political left has never viewed police force as a repressive machinery to stifle the voice of the people, their protests and their rightful aspirations. For other political formations police force is a continuation in independent India of its colonial counter- part which was a ruthless brutal force to protect the interests of the colonial rulers. The non left parties in power have always been tempted to use police to gag public opinion by force. Since the days of the first EMS Ministry the left politics in Kerala wanted police to be stern but humane.

Police network system launched

All police stations, offices, including that of the State DGP, in Kerala were brought under a computerised network that would help the public lodge complaints through e-mail and ensure transparency in policing.  Under the new system, complaints could be lodged through e-mail and the status of the case could be monitored online.

The system would also help the police to face challenges posed by extremist outfits who misuse technology.

Kerala is the only State where the entire police force from the rank of DGP to constables, numbering over 14,300 had been provided mobile phones.
